Patient Testimonial for Anal Fistulectomy and Seton Placement

Testimonial by Mr. Abdul Samad Mohammed

Anal Fistulectomy is a surgical procedure performed to treat an anal fistula, which is an abnormal tunnel-like tract that forms between the anal canal and the skin near the anus. It is typically done to relieve symptoms such as pain, swelling, and drainage of pus or blood. During the procedure, the surgeon makes an incision to open the fistula tract, removes the infected or damaged tissue, and thoroughly cleans the area to promote healing. In some cases, the surgeon may need to remove a portion of the sphincter muscle to ensure complete removal of the fistula tract.

Seton Placement is a procedure used to treat anal fistulas by placing a small piece of material, called a seton, into the fistula tract. The seton helps keep the fistula tract open and allows it to heal from the inside out. During the procedure, the surgeon inserts the seton through the fistula tract and ties it in place, creating a loop that prevents the tract from closing. This allows any infection or pus to drain freely while the fistula heals. Seton placement may be done as a temporary measure to manage symptoms, as a precursor to other surgical treatments to ensure the fistula is fully healed before further intervention, or as a follow-up for treating complex or recurrent anal fistulas.

Mr. Abdul Samad Mohammed from Warangal successfully underwent Fistulectomy and Seton Placement at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. G. Santhi Vardhani, Laparoscopic, Colorectal Surgeon & Proctologist.
